I met Eugene and Beverly in the fall of 1976. I was nineteen and studying art and comparative religion at Vassar, an hour's drive from Lookout Farm; the invite came from my dear friend Tom Hildebrand, whose older brother Mark had long been Gene's buddy. I'm 66 now, and I think it's fair to say we've been close since the first time I stepped into their world, all those years ago. We've watched one another's families and homes and fruit trees grow up, we've shared whatever time allowed and looked after one another as best we could.

In 2010, I served as curator, together with Jen Dragon, for a large, retrospective exhibit of Gene's work, over 150 paintings, held in three large galleries at The Emerson Resort in Mt.Tremper, NY. I'm familiar, I think, with as much of Gene's work as anyone but Beverly.
